FAQ’s: The Key Differences Between CyberKnife & Gamma Knife?
First, both names are misleading. They are not knives. They deliver targeted radiation to tumors, but work like a knife in that they both can eliminate tumors and treat nerve disorders like an Arteriovenous Malformation in the brain.
Which is better CyberKnife or Gamma Knife?
Gamma Knife is limited in the number of angles it can approach the tumor, while CyberKnife can deliver radiation from thousands of angles, limiting the impact of radiation on healthy tissue or organs surrounding the tumor.
CyberKnife Advantages:
The CyberKnife System can treat tumors in the brain, head, neck, and throughout the body. The Gamma Knife, however, is limited to cancers in the brain and limited cervical spine areas, where movement can be stabilized with invasive head frames.
Which is Better Surgery or CyberKnife?
In many clinical situations, CyberKnife has local control and effectiveness that is equivalent to surgery. However, due to its non-invasive nature, the risk of side effects is significantly lower with CyberKnife.
Is CyberKnife Better Than Traditional Radiation?
Cyberknife Is More Accurate Than Traditional Radiation Therapy. Because it’s able to target diseased tissue, Cyberknife SBRT is much more accurate than traditional radiation therapy. SBRT can deliver radiation to a margin of one to five millimeters surrounding a tumor
How Many Times Can You Have CyberKnife treatments?
Treatments are performed on an outpatient basis, with each treatment lasting between 30 to 90 minutes. The number of treatments vary depending on the tumor size, location and shape, but typically only one to five daily sessions are required and it can retreat tumors.
What Happens to a Tumor After Gamma Knife?
The beams of gamma radiation send a very intense dose of radiation to a small area without a need to make an incision. Radiosurgery destroys cells so that they can’t grow. A lesion or tumor will shrink in size over time.
What Happens to a Tumor After CyberKnife?
After treatment, when will my tumor or lesion disappear? The effects of radiosurgery occur gradually over a period of time. The time frame may range from days, months or even years depending on the medical condition targeted.
Is CyberKnife Curative?
Decades of research involving CyberKnife in thousands of cases worldwide, including advanced high-risk (or difficult) tumor cases, prove that CyberKnife cannot only quickly improve the clinical symptoms of patients and obtain satisfactory short-term curative effects, but it is also suitable for the treatment of high-risk tumors, and curing the disease in many patients.
