June is National Cancer Survivor Month & June 2 is National Cancer Survivors Day
It’s a day to celebrate & recognize cancer survivors & those who supported them along the way, inspire those recently diagnosed & most importantly to celebrate milestones & life.
Thanks to advances in cancer prevention, early detection, treatment options and follow-up care, more people than ever before are surviving the disease.
According the National Cancer Institute more than 15.5 million people are alive today after being treated for cancer in the United States.
Since 1990 Lung Cancer Deaths have decreased by 45% – Breast Cancer 39% – Prostate Cancer 52% and Colon Cancer 52%.
Advances in cancer treatment have come a long way in helping patients survive including Robotic Surgery which is less invasive, Targeted Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and greatly improved technology like CyberKnife which is much more targeted radiation therapy, hitting only the tumor, leaving surrounding healthy tissue unharmed, decreasing side effects, resulting in much less toxicity & increasing cure rates.
At the CyberKnife Center of Miami we treat many types of cancer, including metastatic cancer, or cancer that has returned.
Whether you, or a loved one, have been recently diagnosed or re-diagnosed with cancer, you often have several treatment choices and learning about their differences will help you make the right decisions for you.
