Earl Moncada: “The treatment was such a simple thing. I had absolutely no side effects and I don’t feel any different today than I did before kidney cancer.”
Kidney Cancer is a highly aggressive cancer and is potentially one of the most fatal cancers if not treated early.
For many patients, surgery is the first recommended treatment, as Renal Cell Carcinoma is highly resistant to traditional radiation therapy.
Traditional radiation is not effective at eradicating this type of cancer; it will only slow it down.
When patients are recommended surgery, doctors often want to save as much of the kidney as possible so that patients do not need a transplant.
That said, it is not uncommon for kidney cancer to begin in one kidney and then develop in the other kidney, even after getting the tumor removed with surgery.
Many kidney cancer patients and patients in general are still unaware of a non-invasive and highly successful treatment option, called CyberKnife Radiation Therapy. Also known as Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).
It requires no cutting, no anesthesia no recovery time.
You lie down on the CyberKnife table, your tumor is zapped with hundreds of beams of radition, hitting it from all angles. It takes about 45 minutes, you get up and get on with your day. As time goes on the tumor shrivels up and dies.
Because the CyberKnife System delivers higher doses of radiation, with pinpoint accuracy, there’s much less risk of harmful side effects and requires many fewer treatment sessions than other types of radiation therapy.
Plus CyberKnife is proven reduce the risk of the tumor coming back in patients.
Here’s How Earl Kicked Kidney Cancer at CyberKnife Miami Saving Both Kidneys:
In 2005, Earl was diagnosed with bilateral kidney tumors and cancer in his right kidney, which was very scary.
Earl recalls, “As luck would have it I had just seen a story on TV about CyberKnife, a new noninvasive treatment for tumors.”
Earl had seen a news story about the opening of the CyberKnife Center of Miami in 2003. A couple of years later he was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. It came just in time, as his doctors wanted to completely surgically remove one of his kidneys.
“Thank goodness I saw the news. I went to CyberKnife Miami and they said, why would you remove it when we can try to treat the tumor with CyberKnife?”
Dr. Mark Pomper, Radiation Oncololgist and Medical Director at the CyberKnife Center of Miami says, “Removing a kidney completely or partially is the standard treatment for this type of cancer, but often it’s not necessary. In this case with bilateral kidney tumors, CyberKnife was the best option for Earl. You can treat the kidney in a shorter period and get rid of the tumor without significantly affecting kidney function.”
Dr. Pomper adds, “Without the precision of CyberKnife, it’s very hard to deliver this high dose of radiation without affecting normal tissue. CyberKnife is the best of both worlds in that it is non-invasive, and kills the cancer cells while avoiding the healthy tissue.”
While the tumor in Earl’s right kidney disappeared after treatment, another tumor developed in his left kidney 6 years after treatment. The oncology team at CyberKnife Miami treated that kidney too.
If he had listened to the suggestions of his original doctors, his right kidney would have been removed and he would be down to just his left kidney.
He may then have had to be on an organ waitlist, very sick, or suffered an even worse fate.
Earl had his final CyberKnife radiation treatment in 2011 and 10-years later in 2021, both kidneys are still functioning with no complications or signs of recurrence.
Kidney Cancer Treatment with CyberKnife:
CyberKnife radiosurgery is a non-invasive alternative to surgery for treating tumors anywhere in the body, even in difficult to reach areas such as the kidneys.
It’s high-tech system delivers high doses of radiation pin-pointed directly to the tumor with extreme accuracy and minimal exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
The high dose radiation kills tumor cells in as little as 2-to-5 treatment sessions and over time the tumor dies.
CyberKnife was FDA approved in 2001 and has successfully treated hundreds of thousands of patients world wide. If you are diagnosed with Kidney Cancer or any kind of tumor, canceorus or non-cancerous, anywhere in your body, you owe it to yourself to check out CyberKnife. Chances are there is a CyberKnife Center near you somewhere. Google CyberKnife Near Me and see what you discover.
CyberKnife Radiosurgery is ideal for people with kidney cancer because it is highly effective for treating primary and metastatic cancer.
When the only other option is surgical removal, it’s best to try saving your kidney with CyberKnife.
Earl’s cancer was controlled and his organs were spared.
“CyberKnife Miami saved my kidneys and my life. If I had listened to my other doctors, I probably wouldn’t be around today,” says Earl.
He also can’t brag enough about the CyberKnife Center of Miami.
“The staff is so nice. It’s scary at first but they explain everything so well, and make you feel completely relaxed. Any chance I get, I tell people about it and they listen.”
Today Earl, a retired airplane instrument repairman, spends as much time with his five grandkids as possible.
“The doctors tell me that I’m cured of kidney cancer. I’m so grateful that I went to the CyberKnife Center of Miami and am very lucky I saw that story on TV about the treatment because my doctors sure didn’t tell me about it.”
